Before you hire a handyman
Know the limits
Handymen are great for small jobs, but gas work needs a Gas Safe engineer and most electrical work needs a registered electrician. Ask before booking anything that touches either.
Price per job or per hour
For a list of jobs, agree whether the price is fixed or hourly, and whether materials are included.
ID-checked and insured
Every handyman on Fettld completes a photo ID check and has had their insurance reviewed.
Rough price guidance
Broad typical ranges for straightforward jobs, to help you sense-check quotes. They're guidance only, not Fettld prices or averages; real quotes depend on access, materials, the size of the job and how soon you need it.
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Assemble a flat-pack item | £30 to £120 |
| Mount a TV on a wall | £60 to £150 |
| Half a day of odd jobs | £100 to £200 |
How Fettld protects your deposit
When you accept a quote, you pay a deposit to Fettld, not straight to the handyman. Your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work. It's released when you confirm the job is done, or automatically 7 days after the trade marks the stage complete if you don't raise a problem. Bigger jobs are split into stages, and if something goes wrong our Resolution Centre steps in.
Questions about handymen
What jobs can a handyman do?
Small repairs and installations such as flat-pack, shelves, curtain poles, sealant, sticking doors and minor fixes. Bigger or regulated work, including gas and most electrical work, needs a specialist.
How do I get the best price for lots of small jobs?
List them all in one job with photos. A handyman can plan a single visit and quote for the whole list rather than charging for several trips.
Can a handyman mount a TV on a plasterboard wall?
Yes, with the right fixings for the TV's weight. Mention the wall type and TV size when you post the job so they bring suitable fixings.
