Electricians

Find a electrician you can trust

An electrician installs, repairs and tests the wiring in your home, from an extra socket or new lights to a consumer unit upgrade, an EV charger or a full rewire. Landlords also need an electrician for the EICR safety report that private rentals in England need at least every five years.

Before you hire a electrician

  • NICEIC or NAPIT registration

Registered electricians can self-certify notifiable work, such as a new circuit or consumer unit, under the building regulations. Fettld checks NICEIC or NAPIT registration before an electrician is verified.

  • The right certificate

You should get an Electrical Installation Certificate for new circuits or a Minor Works certificate for smaller changes. Keep them; you'll need them when you sell.

  • Insurance

Public liability insurance covers damage to your home during the work. Every electrician on Fettld has had their cover reviewed.

How Fettld protects your deposit

When you accept a quote, you pay a deposit to Fettld, not straight to the electrician. Your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work. It's released when you confirm the job is done, or automatically 7 days after the trade marks the stage complete if you don't raise a problem. Bigger jobs are split into stages, and if something goes wrong our Resolution Centre steps in.

Questions about electricians

Does my electrical work need a certificate?

Most jobs do. New circuits, consumer unit changes and work in bathrooms are notifiable under Part P of the building regulations in England. A registered electrician will notify it and give you a certificate; otherwise it has to go through council building control.

How often do landlords need an EICR?

Private landlords in England must have the electrics inspected and tested at least every five years, and give the report to tenants. Any urgent or remedial work it lists must be done within 28 days or sooner.

Why does my electricity keep tripping?

A trip switch or RCD is cutting the power because it has detected a fault, often a faulty appliance or damp in an outdoor fitting. Try unplugging everything and resetting. If it keeps tripping, an electrician can find the fault safely.
