Tilers

Find a tiler you can trust

A tiler fits wall and floor tiles in bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor spaces, and refreshes existing tiling by regrouting and resealing. Careful preparation, waterproofing in wet areas and accurate setting out are what make tiling look straight and stay watertight.

Before you hire a tiler

  • Waterproofing in wet areas

Ask how the tiler will waterproof around showers and baths. Tanking behind the tiles prevents leaks that tiles and grout alone won't stop.

  • Who supplies the tiles

Agree who buys the tiles, adhesive and grout, and how much extra is ordered for cuts and breakages, usually around 10%.

  • Insurance

Public liability insurance covers accidental damage while the tiler is working in your home.

How Fettld protects your deposit

When you accept a quote, you pay a deposit to Fettld, not straight to the tiler. Your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work. It's released when you confirm the job is done, or automatically 7 days after the trade marks the stage complete if you don't raise a problem. Bigger jobs are split into stages, and if something goes wrong our Resolution Centre steps in.

Questions about tilers

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes, if the old tiles are firmly fixed, flat and the wall can take the extra weight. It isn't recommended in showers or on floors that flex. A tiler will check before quoting.

How long does tiling a bathroom take?

Wall tiling in a small bathroom often takes two to four days, including preparation, tanking and grouting. Large-format tiles and complex patterns take longer.

Why is my grout going black?

Usually mould from moisture and poor ventilation. Cleaning can help, but if the grout is cracked or crumbling, regrouting and resealing stops water getting behind the tiles.
