Roofers

Find a roofer you can trust

A roofer repairs and replaces pitched and flat roofs: slipped or broken tiles, leaks, lead flashing, chimneys, fascias and guttering. Small repairs caught early stop water getting into timbers and ceilings, which is where the real cost of a roof leak comes from.

Before you hire a roofer

  • Insurance for working at height

Roof work carries real risk. Make sure the roofer has public liability insurance and says how they'll access the roof safely, whether by scaffold or a tower.

  • Photos before and after

You can't easily see your own roof. Ask the roofer to share photos of the problem and of the finished repair through the job chat so you know what you're paying for.

  • Guarantees in writing

For bigger jobs such as a new flat roof, ask what guarantee is offered and whether it covers materials, workmanship or both.

How Fettld protects your deposit

When you accept a quote, you pay a deposit to Fettld, not straight to the roofer. Your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work. It's released when you confirm the job is done, or automatically 7 days after the trade marks the stage complete if you don't raise a problem. Bigger jobs are split into stages, and if something goes wrong our Resolution Centre steps in.

Questions about roofers

How do I know if my roof needs repairing or replacing?

Isolated slipped tiles, a damaged flashing or a single leak can usually be repaired. Widespread slipped tiles, sagging, or a roof that leaks in several places may be cheaper to re-cover. Ask roofers for photos so you can compare what each one has seen.

Do I need scaffolding for a roof repair?

Not always. Small repairs can sometimes be done from a ladder or roof ladder, but bigger jobs and anything on a high or steep roof normally need scaffolding or a tower for safety. The quote should say which is included.

Should I pay a roofer upfront for materials?

Be wary of paying in full upfront. With Fettld your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work, and bigger jobs can be split into stages so money is only released as each part is finished. It's released when you confirm the job is done, or automatically 7 days after the trade marks the stage complete if you don't raise a problem.
