What a painter and decorator does
A painter and decorator prepares and finishes walls, ceilings, woodwork and exteriors. Most of a good result is in the preparation: filling, sanding, sealing stains and protecting floors and furniture, which is what separates a finish that lasts from one that peels in a year.
If your home in Bolton is listed or in a conservation area, check with Bolton Council before changing exterior colours or materials, as consent may be needed.

What the price includes
Ask whether paint is included and which brand and finish, how many coats, and whether filling and sanding are part of the job.
Insurance
Spilt paint on a carpet or a ladder through a window happens. Public liability insurance means it's put right without a dispute.
Past work
Look at photos of previous jobs and reviews from customers who paid through Fettld, so you can judge the quality of finish before you choose.

How Fettld protects your deposit
When you accept a quote, you pay a deposit to Fettld, not straight to the painter and decorator. Your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work. It's released when you confirm the job is done, or automatically 7 days after the trade marks the stage complete if you don't raise a problem.
- Post your painter and decorator job for free with photos and the Bolton postcode, so only local trades see it.
- Compare fixed quotes, reviews and checks, and message painters and decorators before you choose.
- Pay safely. Your money is held as a deposit by Fettld until you approve the work, and bigger jobs are split into stages. If something goes wrong, our Resolution Centre steps in.
Painters and decorators in Bolton: questions
Should I buy the paint or let the decorator supply it?
Either works. Decorators often get trade prices and know which products suit the surface, but if you have a specific colour or brand in mind, agree it in the quote so there are no surprises.
How long does it take to paint a room?
A straightforward room is often one to two days including preparation and two coats. Heavy filling, wallpaper stripping or lots of woodwork adds time.
When is the best time to paint outside?
Dry, mild weather, usually late spring to early autumn. Most exterior paints need the surface to be dry and temperatures above about 5°C to cure properly.
